NPA raises petrol, diesel and LPG price floors for second July window

NPA fuel price floors

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has increased the price floors for petrol, diesel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for the second pricing window of July 2026, signalling a likely rise in fuel prices across Ghana.

Figures sighted by TMmotion Ghana show that the benchmark prices have all been adjusted upward compared to the first pricing window of the month.

Under the new pricing regime, the price floor for petrol has increased from GH¢12.79 to GH¢13.28 per litre, representing a rise of GH¢0.49, or 3.8 percent.

The diesel price floor has seen the biggest adjustment, moving from GH¢13.54 to GH¢14.35 per litre. This reflects an increase of GH¢0.81, equivalent to 6.0 percent.

Meanwhile, the LPG price floor has been revised upward from GH¢10.11 to GH¢10.19 per kilogram, representing an increase of GH¢0.08, or 0.8 percent.

The latest adjustments reverse the downward trend in petroleum price floors recorded in recent pricing windows and reflect changing conditions on the global oil market.

The NPA’s price floors serve as the minimum benchmark that Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and LPG Marketing Companies (LPGMCs) must observe when setting fuel prices during each pricing window.

In line with the Petroleum Product Pricing Guidelines (PPPG), all licensed OMCs and LPGMCs are required to comply with the approved minimum price thresholds.

However, the benchmarks do not include additional costs such as premiums charged by International Oil Trading Companies (IOTCs), the operating margins of Bulk Import, Distribution and Export Companies (BIDECs), or the margins determined independently by fuel marketers and dealers.

The increase comes amid renewed tensions in the Middle East, particularly involving the United States and Iran, which have pushed international crude oil prices higher.

Brent crude has reportedly climbed above US$80 per barrel, raising concerns that sustained increases in global oil prices could lead to higher ex-pump fuel prices in Ghana.

Industry observers say future fuel prices will also depend on movements in the cedi against major foreign currencies and developments in the international petroleum market.
