The injury occurred on Friday, July 3, 2026, during Ghana’s Round of 32 clash against Colombia at the Kansas City Stadium.
An MRI scan carried out by the Black Stars medical team immediately after the match confirmed a significant hamstring injury, prompting doctors to recommend surgery.

Senaya’s injury came during a physically demanding contest that also saw Colombia lose striker Jhon Córdoba early through injury, with Luis Suárez replacing him.
Moments later, Ghana were dealt a similar setback when Senaya was forced off with a hamstring problem, leading to the introduction of Alidu Seidu.

Colombia capitalised on the disruption almost immediately. In the 14th minute, substitute Luis Suárez surged down the right wing before delivering a cross that Jhon Arias converted to score what proved to be the decisive goal in Colombia’s 1-0 victory over Ghana.
The France-based defender featured in all four of Ghana’s matches at the tournament before his campaign was brought to an abrupt end by the injury.

Following the diagnosis, Senaya travelled to Paris, where he successfully underwent surgery before returning to his club, AJ Auxerre, to begin his rehabilitation programme.
The 24-year-old is expected to remain out of competitive action for at least two months as he focuses on regaining full fitness.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and AJ Auxerre are working together to monitor his recovery and ensure he receives the necessary medical support throughout his rehabilitation.
Meanwhile, the leadership of the GFA, the Black Stars Management Committee, the technical team and Senaya’s teammates have all wished the defender a speedy recovery and expressed confidence that he will return stronger.
His absence will be a setback for both club and country, but hopes remain high that he will be available again after completing his rehabilitation.
