Court throws out Abu Trica’s application to stop his extradition to the U.S

Abu Trica extradition

The Accra High Court has dismissed an application filed by Ghanaian socialite Fredrick Kum, popularly known as Abu Trica, seeking to halt his extradition to the United States.

Abu Trica’s legal team had, on May 19, 2026, filed a certiorari application asking the High Court to overturn a ruling by the Gbese District Court, which approved his extradition following a request by US authorities.

However, in a ruling delivered on Thursday, July 2, 2026, the High Court rejected the application, effectively clearing the way for Ghanaian authorities to extradite him to the United States to face multiple criminal charges.

The case has attracted significant public attention since the US government formally requested the extradition of the Ghanaian socialite.

According to US prosecutors, Abu Trica is wanted in connection with alleged financial crimes, including wire fraud and money laundering.

Authorities in the United States also accuse him of being part of a suspected romance scam syndicate that allegedly targeted elderly victims and defrauded them of more than $8 million.

With the High Court’s decision, the legal obstacle to his extradition has been removed, although it remains unclear whether his legal team will pursue any further legal remedies.

The case forms part of broader efforts by Ghanaian and US authorities to strengthen cooperation in combating transnational cybercrime and financial fraud
