“I Want to End Ghana’s 45-Year AFCON Drought” – Black Stars Midfielder Kwasi Sibo Declares
Black Stars midfielder Kwasi Sibo has expressed his determination to help Ghana end its long wait for a major international trophy, describing winning the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as his biggest ambition with the national team.
The midfielder believes the Black Stars have the quality and leadership needed to bring the coveted trophy back to Ghana after more than four decades.

Speaking to 3Sports GH, Sibo said lifting the AFCON title would not only fulfil his personal dream but also bring joy to millions of Ghanaians who have waited years to celebrate continental success.
“There’s always one thing that I want to feel in my heart. I want the nation to also feel it in their heart. It’s to win a cup for the nation,” he said.
Ghana last won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1982, with the Black Stars having fallen short in several attempts since then.

With attention gradually shifting towards the 2027 AFCON, Sibo believes the current squad possesses the talent required to compete for the title.
“I think it’s been ages since Ghana won a cup. AFCON is coming and that’s a dream. I want that dream to manifest,” he stated.
The midfielder also expressed confidence in the team’s technical direction, backing head coach Carlos Queiroz and his staff to guide the Black Stars to continental glory.
“I believe in the team. I believe in the coaching staff of Carlos Queiroz that he can make that dream happen for every Ghanaian who has been waiting for ages to see Ghana win a cup,” Sibo added.
The Black Stars have endured years of disappointment in major tournaments despite reaching the latter stages of several AFCON competitions.
As preparations for the next continental championship gather pace, players and fans alike remain hopeful that Ghana can finally end its 45-year wait for a fifth AFCON title.
Sibo’s comments have resonated with many supporters, who continue to dream of seeing the Black Stars reclaim their place among Africa’s football elite.
