Abu Trica Finally Extradited to the United States Over Alleged $8 Million Romance Scam

Ghanaian socialite Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, has allegedly been extradited to the United States to face charges in connection with an alleged $8 million romance fraud case.
The alleged extradition follows a series of legal proceedings in Ghana, during which the High Court approved a request by United States authorities to transfer him to stand trial.
Abu Trica had been in custody since December 2025 after his arrest over an extradition request from the United States. During the proceedings, he was granted GH¢30 million bail with two justified sureties while his legal team challenged the extradition process.
His lawyer, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, had filed an application seeking to stay the extradition order and indicated that the matter could ultimately be determined by the Supreme Court.
Despite those legal efforts, Abu Trica has reportedly been extradited to the United States, where he is expected to appear before a U.S. court to answer allegations relating to an alleged multi-million-dollar romance scam.
The allegations involve claims that he participated in a fraud scheme that allegedly targeted victims through online romance scams. U.S. prosecutors allege the scheme resulted in losses of approximately $8 million.
It is important to note that the extradition does not amount to a conviction. Abu Trica remains presumed innocent unless and until he is found guilty by a competent court in the United States.
Further details regarding his first court appearance in the U.S. are expected in the coming days.
