We will always be the generation that didn’t win the World Cup – Casemiro breaks down

Casemiro Brazil World Cup exit

Brazil midfielder Casemiro has expressed his heartbreak following his country’s elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, admitting the squad feels it has let the nation down.

The five-time world champions were knocked out of the tournament after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Norway in the Round of 16 on Sunday, bringing an abrupt end to their quest for a sixth World Cup title.

A visibly emotional Casemiro struggled to contain his feelings after the final whistle, saying the defeat had shattered the team’s biggest dream.

“It’s difficult. I only want to be with my family. We did our best, but we lost our dream… we disappointed all Brazilians,” Casemiro said, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano via CazéTV.

The former Real Madrid and Manchester United midfielder also acknowledged that his generation of Brazilian players will be remembered for failing to lift football’s most coveted trophy.

“We will always be the generation that didn’t win the World Cup.”

Brazil’s exit came despite a late goal from Neymar, who scored from the penalty spot in stoppage time. However, a brace from Erling Haaland secured a famous victory for Norway and booked their place in the quarter-finals.

The defeat marked a disappointing end to Brazil’s campaign and also coincided with Neymar’s announcement that he was retiring from international football after 16 years with the national team.
