Presidential Staffer Nana Yaa Jantuah has rejected claims that the price of kenkey has increased to GH¢7, insisting that she still buys the popular Ghanaian staple at much lower prices.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme during a discussion on the rising cost of living, Nana Yaa Jantuah said her personal experience at the market does not reflect reports of kenkey being sold at GH¢7.

According to her, she regularly purchases a ball of kenkey for GH¢3, while the highest amount she has paid for one is GH¢5.

“I always buy kenkey for GH¢3. There is nowhere that kenkey is sold for GH¢7,” she said.

The Presidential Staffer explained that even a single ball of kenkey is often enough for her, adding that she sometimes struggles to finish two balls when she buys more.

“In the market, I buy one kenkey for three cedis. Even when I buy two, I can’t finish it. I tried buying one for five cedis; it’s also a lot. The highest price I bought was five cedis,” she stated.

Nana Yaa Jantuah attributed what she described as stable kenkey prices to the availability of maize, which is the main ingredient used in preparing the traditional food.

“There is corn in abundance,” she added.

Her comments come amid growing public concerns about the increasing cost of food items and the broader impact of inflation on household budgets.

Across Ghana, many consumers have raised concerns about the prices of essential commodities, with food costs remaining a major topic of discussion among households and policymakers.

The debate over kenkey prices has also attracted reactions from social media users, with some sharing their own market experiences while others questioned whether prices differ depending on location and size.
