Conflicting claims over Abu Trica’s age emerge during US court hearing

Abu Trica age controversy

Questions have emerged over the actual age of Ghanaian socialite Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, after conflicting details were reportedly presented during his first appearance before a United States federal court.

According to reports, Abu Trica’s legal team informed the court that the socialite is 28 years old, while US prosecutors argued that their investigations indicate he is 31 years old, creating a three-year discrepancy over his personal details.

The age discrepancy surfaced shortly after Abu Trica was extradited from Ghana to the United States to face allegations connected to an alleged $8 million romance scam targeting elderly Americans.

Although the disagreement over his age is not the central issue in the criminal proceedings, it has generated widespread discussion on social media, with many users questioning how the conflicting information arose.

Abu Trica made his first appearance before the US federal court after arriving in the country on Thursday, July 9, 2026. During the hearing, he pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him and denied any wrongdoing.

His case stems from allegations by US authorities that he was part of a network involved in romance fraud schemes that allegedly defrauded elderly victims of millions of dollars through fake online identities and deceptive relationships.

The socialite’s legal team has since retained a US-based attorney to represent him throughout the proceedings, as lawyers licensed in Ghana cannot directly appear before American federal courts.

The next hearing in the case has been scheduled for September 8, 2026, when the court is expected to consider further evidence and continue pre-trial proceedings.

While the conflicting age details have attracted public attention, the court proceedings remain focused on the criminal allegations facing Abu Trica, who continues to enjoy the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty in court.
