Abu Trica’s Lawyer to Challenge Extradition Ruling at Supreme Court

Abu Trica extradition appeal

Lawyer for embattled Ghanaian socialite Fredrick Kum, popularly known as Abu Trica, has indicated that he will challenge the Accra High Court’s decision clearing the way for his client’s extradition to the United States.

Reacting to the ruling, lawyer and activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor disclosed that he was outside Ghana on official duties when he learnt of the court’s decision.

In a post on social media, Barker-Vormawor suggested that the legal team would head to the Supreme Court in a final effort to stop the extradition.

“I am out of Ghana for work. I just heard that the case of Abu Trica has been fast-tracked and a judge has just ordered his extradition. Hmmm. FBI 1 – Abu 1. I guess this issue goes to the Supreme Court,” he wrote.

The High Court’s ruling dismissed a certiorari application seeking to overturn an earlier decision by the Gbese District Court, which approved Abu Trica’s extradition following a request from authorities in the United States.

With the application dismissed, the legal path has been cleared for Ghanaian authorities to proceed with the extradition process, subject to any further legal action.

Abu Trica is wanted by US authorities over his alleged involvement in an $8 million romance scam and other related cybercrime offences.

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has previously stated that if convicted in the United States, the Ghanaian socialite could face a prison sentence of not less than 20 years.

The case has drawn widespread public interest and is expected to remain in the spotlight as the legal team prepares to challenge the High Court’s decision before the Supreme Court.
