The family of former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo has expressed deep concern over her condition following an alleged shooting incident, describing her chances of survival as “50/50” as she continues to receive intensive medical treatment.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Thursday, June 25, family spokesperson Dr. Emmanuel Boakye said the former lawmaker sustained multiple gunshot injuries while seated in her vehicle during an attempt to serve her younger brother, Kwadwo Safo Akofena, with a court notice seeking to halt his installation as successor to the leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission.

According to Dr. Boakye, Adwoa Safo’s injuries are severe, and she has undergone numerous surgical procedures and medical examinations since the incident.

“The survival of Adwoa Safo, in percentage terms, I will say, is 50/50. The situation is very bad. She has undergone surgical operations, check-ups and other medical procedures almost every day,” he stated.

He further revealed that doctors had removed some pellets from her ears and were continuing efforts to address injuries involving her head.

“She can’t even hear. I don’t know if she has any pellets in her ears; they removed some from her ears. I understand some of the pellets also entered her head. They are working on it. We need your prayers,” Dr. Boakye added.

The family spokesperson disclosed that medical specialists have advised that Adwoa Safo be transferred abroad for advanced treatment due to the seriousness of her condition.

“The doctors are advising that, considering her condition, we do everything possible to take her abroad for further treatment. The situation is very serious,” he said, adding that the family is making arrangements for overseas medical care.

Meanwhile, nine individuals accused in connection with the alleged shooting have been granted bail by the court. They were each admitted to bail in the sum of GH¢500,000 with two sureties. Although the sureties are not required to be justified, they must complete and sign the court’s bail justification forms as part of the conditions.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and authorities are expected to continue legal proceedings as the case develops.
