Dancehall artiste with the stage name AK Songstress, born Akosua Kwakye has flamed those criticizing her of sounding Nigerian on the latest banging hit song, ‘Jonathan’.

According to her, when she dropped the “Jonathan” song people believed it was a Nigerian who sang it, and she got comments about sounding like a Nigerian

The songstress in an interview on Hitz FM’s Daybreakhiz reacted to claims that she sounds like a Nigerian but not Ghanaian.

She revealed that she has been sounding Ghanaian for a long and what happened in her career as a musician.

According to the songstress, Ghanaians like to appreciate other people, revealing that when her”Jonathan” dropped, it started doing well and after like two weeks and she got comments from people that they didn’t know it was Ghanaian who sang it

“There is something about we Ghanaians that we always like to appreciate other people“, she said.

“My song, when it dropped, started doing, after like two weeks, when it started doing well, I got comments like, oh, I didn’t know that, this your new song was nice like that. I thought it was a Nigerian, meanwhile, you’ve been following me, I’ve dropped a new song, and you didn’t even check it but when you heard the buzz about it that people are singing, it started blowing from Nigeria, okay then let’s accept it cos they thought it was a Nigerian, that’s Ghanaians problem“, she added.

She continued to say that she doesn’t sound like Nigerian and if she sounds that, so what?

“And others are like, why does she sound Nigerian. I don’t sound Nigerian, I’m speaking Pgin and Pgin cuts across, okay if it sounds Nigerian, so what? does that make it less of good music? I’m Ghanaian. I’m called Akosua Kwakye. Is that not enough as a Ghanaian? I have sounded Ghanaian for so long and what happened?: And the song is pidgin, you listen to it and its pidgin, so what’s the problem? or Ghanaian cannot sound that Ghanaian, it has to be Nigerian, that’s our mentality and that’s what’s affecting the industry and Ghana as a whole”.
